AAT Reg. Thai prevention actions enable women and minors to keep safe from sexual exploitation and trafficking and encourage victims to leave prostitution. Prevention actions are implemented in several ways: We set up systems in communities at risk to prevent vulnerable women and minors from being trafficked and to be able to protect themselves. We detect missing persons and potential victims for protection on their transit stage before reaching their final destination. We disseminate information in strategic places on trafficking and self protection. We encourage and provide new alternatives to the most vulnerable groups of people and the victims themselves. The program targets women and minors in general, the ones living in communities at risk such as cross border areas, the most vulnerable ones such as stateless persons, or former victims as well as the ones already involved in prostitution
AAT Reg. Thai develops actions to prevent women and children from exploitation and trafficking and to protect the ones who are victims. The actions take various forms undertaken in communities at risk and strategic areas such as:
- The protection systems that enable trafficking prevention for groups at risk, gather missing persons information and coordinate for protection interventions.
- Prevention campaigns that inform the population of the risks of trafficking and how to protect oneself and permit the detection of groups at risk among travelers.
- The prevention of trafficking and exploitation through the encouragement of new alternatives to the most vulnerable groups and for the victims themselves.
Community based protection systems:
AAT Reg. Thai set up local prevention networks and watchdog groups at cross-borders areas that prevent trafficking of women and children and watch and report on trafficking activities. They also detect information on missing persons. AAT Reg. Thai also strengthens multi-disciplinary team’s actions for victims of trafficking protection. When watchdogs find information on victims of trafficking they coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams for further protection.
The role of the network and watchdogs is to inform women and children in communities at risk of the dangers of trafficking and the ways to protect themselves. They coordinate with the multi-disciplinary team for protection interventions. They are established on both sides of the borders in communities at risk.
AAT Reg. Thai also develops leadership programs with youth from both sides of the border for their participation in the prevention and protection of others.
AAT Reg. Thai engages in actions to disseminate information on trafficking and ways to protect oneself in communities at risk.
AAT Reg. Thai implements prevention campaigns in communities at risk especially during festivals or events between the two borders (such as the long tail boat racing in the Mekong River between Laos and Thailand). These periods are strategic times for campaigns because there are the peaks of trafficking because of the numbers of exchange and border crossings. It is also the time that attracts many people from provinces located at both sides of the border allowing information dissemination to reach more people. Campaigns allow us to inform people along both sides of the border of the risk of trafficking, how to protect oneself, such as legal procedures for migration and permits, and to disseminate contacts of relevant organizations for protection.
AAT Reg. Thai also engage in regular campaigns at border customs with the immigration and customs police to inform women and minors travelers of risks and how to protect themselves. These actions also allow us to provide relevant contacts and detect potential victims.
Prevention through encouraging women and minors to new alternatives:
AAT Reg. Thai establishes programs to encourage the most vulnerable groups women and victims of sexual exploitation to alternatives other than prostitution. Actions take place in provinces located near borders and inside entertainment places.
With stateless children, AAT Reg. Thai provides scholarships to maintain them at school.
AAT Reg. Thai also visits and undertakes activities and trainings with girls in entertainment places to encourage them to alternatives other than prostitution.

AAT Reg. Thai protection actions consist of saving group at risk or victims from situations of exploitation and transferring them to appropriate safe places.
We develop techniques to find and protect victims with law enforcement agencies or other relevant agencies. We also participate to develop protection mechanisms to: strengthen the victim identification process, encourage cross-border victim’s protection, and to support embassies to protect their citizens.

After been protected from situations of exploitation, AAT Reg. Thai assists victims until their return home. We assist them to access their rights and prepare them for safe return and community reintegration.
We identify the ones kept in detention centers who do not have access to protection and transfer them to adapted centers.
In adapted centers, we provide them with legal support to receive compensations. We also provide them assistance to recover from their mental and physical problems. We then assist them to prepare for their future and build their capacity for community actions. Finally, we prepare them for the different steps of repatriation. More / Results
